Hello! I've been following this tutorial series and customizing things to my liking in an attempt to learn and improve, but also to position myself to have something that I can call my own. My goal is to make a commercial project, which is why I'm also a college student at the moment studying Computer Science with a specialization in game development. I'm using this tutorial series as a way to jump start my understanding of how to create my first "real" project, and I am incredibly grateful for all you've done.
Okay, so currently I'm on the Status Effects portion of the series. Since I've been creating a very detail-rich stat panel that includes all the stats of a unit in the primary panel (and more), I'm attempting to incorporate the display of status effects on units into the Stat Panel also. My problem is that, unlike most of the other things so far, I'm failing to understand how status effects truly work. It feels like they're "floating in the ether" somewhere and are hard to access. So, my question is: Why am I so incompetent? Err, no, my question is: How do I go about obtaining a List (or collection of whatever sort) of statuses currently affecting whatever unit is being displayed in the Stat Panel via the Stat Panel class? Would I need to pass in another parameter to the Display function, or do I somehow use the notification system to find all the statuses affecting the unit, or would I do something like " Status statuses = obj.GetComponent<Status>();" at the top of Display and then write a second if statement for "if (statuses)", or something else entirely?
Thanks in advance and I still can't believe you answer these questions in 2021. That takes a level of dedication to enriching the world that is uncommon
