Particle.size and Particle.color are deprecated (warning flags given) and will be removed soon.

From the docs we are supposed to use startColor or GetCurrentColor(ParticleSystem system) instead.

However, if I want to modify the particle's color at runtime, I don't see a way to do that anymore. Any ideas?

Sorry, but I don't know about this one. I tried looking into it a little bit, but the docs are pretty un-helpful. It looks like the new ParticleSystem is still using what they refer to as legacy code. It might be that they haven't exposed code support for dynamic color changes, and expect you to set it up ahead of time using the modules.
