I'm working through the tactics RPG blog posts and they are amazing.
I would really like to show my support. Jon, do you have a patreon or something similar?

Thanks, even just the thought is appreciated! I've looked at Patreon a little bit, but haven't taken the time to setup a decent page yet - so many options and things to think about. I'll let you know if I ever release it though

Well, it's really not just the thought. I want you and other game developers / hobbyists / content producers to know that creating awesome content is something that is rewarded and highly valued.
I see a lot of code out there with just comments. Most of which makes me think they didn't even code it themselves. A lot of these are very coupled and hard-coded. Code Architecture is abysmal. Untangling it and using it as a framework is more work than just coding it myself. I see videos on game design without the OO elements to put the design in code. You've taken the time out of the goodness of your heart (and maybe to build a solid portfolio) to create detailed tutorials that also share your thought process and explain design decisions with quality much higher than the majority of content out there.
Others should look at your success and want to emulate that, building the community and raising the level of all game development and design content. Also, selfishly, I want you to keep producing content so I can consume it. Incentivizing that is the least I can do. I also assume that, if you were to have subscribers to your content, you will raise the bar even higher. This also benefits me.
So, think of your patreon page and accepting contributions as a way of helping the community and content creators delineate the difference between marginal and good.
But who knows...maybe I'm the only person who feels this way.

You're absolutely right on every point. The only thing you may not have considered is that right now all of my blogging is casual - I don't feel that I "owe" anyone so I can do it whenever I want and relax whenever I want. There is a certain amount of extra stress that would be included once money was involved. If I were successful enough that blogging was my only responsibility that would be awesome, but it is more likely that it would just be an "extra" responsibility on top of an already full schedule and that can lead to complete burn out. So... I am interested in the idea of a patreon system, but I want to take my time and do it right if I am going to do it at all. Either way I appreciate your support and I will be sure to let you know if and when I set something up!

After I'm done with the Tactics series, I'm pretty sure I will add me to your Patreon. If you really want to feel like it's not a job, only charge per blogpost, and let the user set a maximum ammount of dollar per month. That way you wont feel bad for your Patreons when you don't produce anything to your blog. Let's say I only want to pay max 10 dollars per month and 2 dollars per blogpost, then if you produce 0 blogposts, I pay 0 dollar, if you produce 3 blogposts I pay 6 dollar and if you produce 8 blogposts in the same month, I pay 10 dollar. Food for thought at least

Hey mrr, thanks for the feedback. At the moment I had decided to just not worry about it - even at a time like right now where I am not posting new blogs, I am still doing a lot of work in preparation of the next project series, so I shouldn't really feel bad if people want to keep supporting me. However, you raise a good point about different subscription models. Out of curiosity would you prefer a per-post fee or per-month flat rate?

I've been following your Tactics RPG tut as well and I'm having a blast. You explain everything extremely well and I've been having a ton of fun learning from you. I'd also donate/subscribe to a Patreon! Pay per month would be worth it for me if you had a solid release schedule.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the project so much. I have a Patreon account here: www.patreon.com/theliquidfire . You can always feel free to subscribe for only so long as you feel is worth saying "thanks" for the content you've already consumed, but unfortunately I don't have a solid release schedule for new content at the moment. I've been looking into a variety of topics like machine learning, unity's ecs implementation, and nicer looking art related stuff like with substance painter. Much of that has either been so scattered, not production ready, or not learned well enough for me to try teaching on my own. There is tons of material and projects I'd like to cover, but its hard to put a date on. At the moment, I'm most inspired to do some sort of Skyrim or Zelda style game, but I really want to try that in Unity ECS and I would like it to be a little more of a final implementation before I dive in to far.
